A More Resourceful Kind of Design: The Bit Stool

A More Resourceful Kind of Design: The Bit Stool

by 313 Design Market

We are always drawn to pieces that balance strong form with a thoughtful material story. The Bit Stool by Normann Copenhagen does exactly that. Designed by Simon Legald, Bit transforms recycled plastic into a sculptural, multifunctional object that feels at once playful, practical, and distinctly contemporary. Its silhouette takes cues from monoliths and columns, giving the piece a graphic presence that works beautifully in both residential and commercial interiors.

What makes Bit especially compelling is the way it is made. Crafted primarily from post-industrial plastic waste, with smaller portions of household waste, each stool is formed from 4.5 kg of colour-sorted plastic fragments using rotational molding at precisely 120°C. That temperature matters, because it allows the material to be reheated and recycled repeatedly without compromising its properties. The result is a design that is not only visually distinctive, but also rooted in a more circular approach to production.

Bit is designed to move easily through the home. It can serve as a stool, a side table, or a pedestal for books, objects, or flowers. It is also suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, withstanding temperatures from -10°C to +50°C, which makes it just as useful on a balcony or terrace as it is beside a sofa or bed.

The collection is available in three forms, the original Bit Stool, Bit Stool Cone, and Bit Stool Stack, across ten colour options ranging from quiet neutrals to more expressive combinations. Each one carries a unique speckled composition that gives the surface depth and individuality.

As an authorized Normann Copenhagen dealer, we can source the full Bit Stool collection by special order. For interiors that need an object with function, personality, and a more considered material story, Bit offers a fresh and highly versatile solution.
